What is LinkStar?

LinkStar is a radio designed for use in space that interfaces with the Globalstar™ satellite network. Typically radios that use the Globalstar™ network are found in use on oil rigs, shipping containers, gas pipelines and even endangered animals. In addition, they are used for voice communications from urban to remote locations, at sea or in the mountains. We have taken the radio design a step further and developed a radio for use in near-space and in low Earth orbit.

World Wide Converage - 24/7!

The GlobalStar™ network utilizes 32 satellites orbiting 1400 km above the Earth. As a result, there is always at least one GlobalStar™ satellite in the line of sight of the LinkStar radio up to 1200 km, which means your satellite will always be talking to the ground via the Globalstar™ network to our secure servers!

Small Enough To Fit within a 1U CubeSAT!

LinkStar-STX3 , the next generation of simplex radios, provides 24/7 coverage for a range of altitudes up to 1200 km, yet it is small enough to fit in a 1U CubeSAT. The radio itself only measures 44 mm x 88 mm and weighs under 25 g. The system itself uses only 350 mW to transmit its data. With our added FRNCS flight computer and optional NovAtel GPS, peak power usage is under 4 W, typically averaging around 3 W

Two Flavors - Simplex and the LinkStar Duplex!

Currently we offer the LinkStar-STX3 Simplex and the LinkStar Duplex radios. The LinkStar-STX3 allows for "Beacon" mode, transmitting TTL protocol data. Beacon and dwell rates can be set before flight, or, using the QuickSAT environment, you can define how the beacon and dwell rate varies based on your mode of operation.

The LinkStar Duplex radio provides not only the same basic features of the LinkStar-STX3 Simplex radio, but also the abilty to send commands to the radio and your satellite, while simultaneously transmitting data. With the LinkStar Duplex radio and our QuickSAT/VMS software environment your satellite becomes a node on the internet! With the QuickSAT/VMS environment you will be able to monitor historical and live data, monitor vehicle health, and upload virtual payloads and updated flight software to your satellite via the LinkStar radio - all through an easy to use web based interface on your laptop!
